Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Avnet, Inc.

Roy Vallee began his career in electronics distribution in 1971, when he joined Radio Products in Los Angeles, California. He worked his way up from stocking shelves to the shipping dock and eventually to sales. He established a sales office for the company in San Diego.

In 1977 he joined Hamilton/Avnet as a field sales representative. Through subsequent promotions he held positions such as Systems Business Manager, General Sales Manager, General Manager, Regional Director and Vice President. He was recognized as Hamilton/Avnet's General Manager of the Year and on two occasions, Regional Director of the Year.

In 1989 Mr. Vallee was appointed President of Hamilton/Avnet Computer, and in 1990 was named Senior Vice President and Director of Worldwide Electronics Operations for Avnet.

He was elected to Avnet's Board of Directors in November 1991, and in March 1992 was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer. In November of that year he was appointed Vice Chairman.

In July 1998, Mr. Vallee was named Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Avnet, Inc. He reorganized the Board, replacing company officers, except himself, with men and women from outside the company, including new additions with significant international experience. He also meets regularly with a management board that he established, consisting of his immediate executive staff and industry veterans from outside the company. His vision for Avnet includes creating new value propositions that will expand the Company's role within the electronics and computer products industries. Avnet is on track to expand the space that it occupies in the technology marketplace.

Mr. Vallee has been a member of the Center for Corporate Innovation since 1991 and serves on the Board of Directors of the RosettaNet industry consortium. He also serves on the executive committee of the Global Technology Distribution Council, the Advisory Board of Arizona State University and its Presidents' Club. In January 2003 he accepted a post on Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano's newly formed Council on Innovation & Technology. Mr. Vallee is also a member of the Boards of Directors of two outside companies: Teradyne, the world's leading automated testing company for the electronics, communications and software industries and Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), the world leader in integrated circuit (IC) design software.

Active in community affairs, in 1999, Mr. Vallee was honored by Make A Difference, a Phoenix, Arizona-based community and corporate volunteer organization. He was named in 1997 to Electronic Buyers' News' list of Hot 25 Executives; and again in 1999 and 2000 in recognition of his leadership in Avnet's role as industry consolidator and collaborator, and in its globalization.

Mr. Vallee was also honored as Executive of the Year (2000) by Arizona State University's College of Business -- Dean's Council of 100, which selects a business leader each year "whose contribution is deemed significant to the nation, whose inspired management has created and sustained superior organizational performance and who exhibits the qualities of a role model for future business leaders."

He earned an Associate of Science Degree in Electronics Technology from the Don Bosco Technical Institute, San Gabriel, California, in 1971.

Mr. Vallee was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts and grew up in the Los Angeles area. He currently resides in Paradise Valley, Arizona, with his wife. They have two grown children. He enjoys his family, golf and tennis.
