Chairman Ed Zito called
the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. and welcomed council members and the public
in attendance.

The Chairman asked for a
motion to approve the June 2003 minutes.
Council Member Gil Jimenez so moved, second by Council Member Pat
Stoner. Motion carried.
Tim Hogan, L. William Seidman research Institute gave a presentation on “Arizona High Tech Industries: Impact on Arizona’s Economy.”
Council Member Steve Sanghi provided a brief presentation on “For Innovation and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST)” and urged the Council to become more familiar with this important program for Arizona.
Chairman Ed Zito asked Council Member Gilbert Jimenez to provide an update on the Auditor General’s recommendations for the Arizona Department of Commerce. Council Member Senator Leff provided some comments on the process and expressed her concern with the Auditor General’s findings. Council Member Todd Bankofier requested a show of hands of Council Members contacted by the Auditor General’s office to discuss the Arizona Department of Commerce. It was unanimous, not one Council Member was contacted.
The Capital Formation, Technology Development & Transfer and Technology Business Infrastructure committee chairs provided an update of their committee’s recommendations for Arizona’s strategic plan on innovation and technology.
The next Governor’s Council on Innovation and Technology meeting will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. at 1700 West Washington Street, 2nd Floor Conference Room, Phoenix, Arizona.
Chairman Ed Zito thanked Carl Fox and his staff for hosting the Governor’s Council in Flagstaff and adjourned the meeting at 4:00 p.m.
