Arizona's Telecommunications Infrastructure

Telecommunications infrastructure investments are necessary to continue to improve Arizona’s talent base and provide access to all who wish to participate in the global economy.

  • The Telecommunications Infrastructure Sub Committee, chaired by Chris Cummiskey, Director and State CIO, Government Information Technology Agency (GITA), developed specific goals to ensure rural communities in Arizona are connected to the networked global community, as outlined in the Telecommunications Infrastructure Sub Committee's recommendations.

  • Establish the Telecommunications Infrastructure Sub Committee (TISC) under the GCIT;

  • Create forums to educate numerous rural constituencies on telecom issues;

  • Issue a statewide telecom RFI in conjunction with League of Cities and Towns, and County Supervisors Association;

  • Derive recommendations for the Carrier Services RFP issued by the ADOA;

  • Assist in the development of the RFP from ADOA; and

  • Host a number of conferences and meeting to determine strategic recommendations to move statewide telecommunications efforts forward.
These results are the collaborative efforts by the Arizona Department of Commerce, Arizona Governor’s Office, Arizona State University, Arizona Technology Council, Bioscience Steering Committee, Commerce and Economic Development Commission, Flinn Foundation, Government Information Technology Agency, Governor’s Council on Innovation and Technology, Northern Arizona University, Southern Arizona Tech Council, and University of Arizona.
